The images on this
page are simply to show an example of the typical amount
of post process work I am doing on my FujiFilm F200 EXR images.
My workflow is
fairly straightforward, and I like to keep it as simple
as possible.
1. I open the Jpeg
image in Adobe Camera Raw.
2. (Optional step) I adjust noise
levels (if required). Typically, this is only applicable
to images at ISO 800, or above.
3. (Optional step) I use the
'Recovery' slider to bring any highlight blow outs back
to a manageable level. This is usually not required
though - Only where there is extreme contrast e.g.,
night scenes with a strong visible light source.
4. I then open the
image in Photoshop CS4.
5. I run my own
sharpening/local contrast action on the image, and
'fade' out the effect, if required, using the Master
Opacity control. Normally, this is
only required on high(er) ISO images to keep noise
levels from creeping back in.
6. (Optional step) I use 'Selective
Color' to fix any color anomalies. Typically, this is
only ever done to reds as, at times, they can drift a
little toward magenta.
7. (Optional step) For some images,
I also use the Brightness/Contrast control to lighten
the image slightly, or increase/decrease contrast.
8. (Optional step) Occasionally, I
will use the Vivid Light brush tool to lighten, or
darken, specific parts of an image.
9. Resize for
printing.
Below, are 20
example images. The one on the left is always the
original (with noise reduction and/or highlight
recovery, if required) The right hand image is after the
adjustments described above.
